As a busy mama, your time and energy are essential ingredients in taking care of your family. Remember, when using this guide that there is no perfect way to take care of yourself and there is no perfect way to nourish yourself! Here’s some guiding principles with tips on common self care challenges mamas face + what to focus on:
If you are struggling finding time to eat
- Set reminders on your phone to go off throughout the day in 3-4 hour intervals
- Set up one handed snacks at your nursing/pumping station to nosh on while feeding baby (try: BOOBIE* Bar, BOOBIE* Bark, individual packets of nuts, dried fruit)
- When preparing meals, try batch cooking and preparing larger portions to use as leftovers for meals
- Experiment with freezer meals to have on hand
If you are struggling to keep up your energy
- Try balancing your plate using the meal planner above to ensure you are setting your body up for stable blood sugar
- Add in more snacks throughout the day versus spacing out meals
- Keep up your hydration by adding in electrolytes and superfoods (add one packet of Hydromom to upgrade your water)
If you are struggling with cravings throughout the day
- Ensure you are eating enough protein throughout the day- consider adding in a scoop of BOOBIE* Body to your meal or snack or sipping it throughout the day
- Check in with your hunger cues and add in more snacks if needed- many mamas need more calories than they did pre-pregnancy!
- Keep satisfying snacks on hand with you everywhere you go to prevent going hours in between meals (think: BOOBIE* Bar, individual cheese sticks, nuts/trail mix, roasted edamame, roasted chickpeas)
